Nonprofit FARE Debuts Short Documentary Trailer, "A World Unaware…When Every Bite Matters" At The AmDocs Film Festival In Palm Springs
McLEAN, Va.—March 27, 2025—FARE (Food Allergy Research & Education), the leading charity that supports those impacted by food allergy through advocacy, research, and education, today announced it will release the trailer for a new short documentary at AmDocs Film Festival in Palm Desert, California.
"A World Unaware… When Every Bite Matters" explores the experiences of more than 33 million people in the U.S. Who live with a life-threatening disease that most of the world doesn't understand. A World Unaware reveals the reality of food allergy as a disease of the immune system—not just the medical risk, but the stigma, the isolation, and the lives forever changed by it. Through the voices of those who have lost, those who have fought, and those leading a movement for recognition, this documentary brings to light a health crisis hidden in plain sight—and the people working to change that.
The film centers around the personal story of Carter Mannon, a high school football player whose teammates covered his school locker in his food allergen after hearing about his life-threatening food allergy—knowing that one exposure could kill him, putting his life at risk. The film asks the tension-filled question: Was it attempted murder, or was it even bullying?
"A short documentary and film festivals are the way to start a new conversation in the world where art does not imitate life but here, art saves lives," said Sung Poblete, PhD, RN, CEO of FARE. "This film and its narrative will feel familiar to those who are part of the food allergy community and their loved ones—they live with this potentially life-threatening disease every day. But for those outside of this community—those who may not know that food allergy is not a diet, a preference, or a choice, this film is actually for you. We created a way to tell you some of our stories—three stories among millions—to underscore the seriousness and importance of solving for this disease."
Continued Dr. Poblete, "We intend to make certain that food allergy and those impacted get the visibility needed to advance a reality where no more patients have to live in a world unaware. The impact of film festivals like AmDocs could spur research funding, innovation, and public awareness—all needed elements of a solution we believe is within reach. We are honored to debut our film trailer at AmDocs."
