22 products that will help reduce indoor allergens - SFGATE

Image
Allergy sufferers know that runny noses, itchy eyes, and nagging coughs aren't limited solely to socially distanced backyard hangs or the futile task of raking leaves. Indoor allergens in the form of pet dander, mold spores, and dust mites are just as nefarious as the outdoor variety and can plague even the cleanest homes. The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America claims that indoor air quality can actually be worse than outdoor air. These often microscopic offenders linger on dusty surfaces, bedding, carpets, bathrooms...sigh, pretty much everywhere. So, while the world waits for someone to pitch a dust-destroying magic wand on Shark Tank, you can reduce indoor allergens with regular cleaning and simple swaps. These methods are designed to bust dust and pollen, demolish dander and mold, and generally help you breathe easier. If there's a giant bottle of Kirkland-brand Zyrtec in your Amazon cart right now, you'll want to read on. Baggu Masks...

Intertrigo: Symptoms, Causes, and Treatment - Verywell Health

Image
Intertrigo is an inflammatory rash that occurs between skin folds as a result of friction, moisture, and lack of airflow. It occurs on areas of the body where skin touches skin, such as the armpits, the groin, under the breasts, or within fat folds. The medical term for it is intertriginous dermatitis. Because these folds are warm and moist, they provide ideal conditions for Candida albicans  (yeast), other fungi, or bacteria to take hold. This can cause infection and make symptoms worse. This article outlines the symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of this uncomfortable rash, and how you can avoid making it worse. Intertrigo Symptoms Intertrigo is characterized by a rash that is intensely red, macerated (wet and soft), and glistening, with scaling on the edges. The rash extends just beyond where opposing skin folds overlap. The rash can itch, burn, and sting. In babies and adults with incontinence, intertrigo can show up as diaper ...

My Personal Experience With Adult Onset Food Allergies - Healthline

Image
One day in 2020, a friend reached out to Alana Roshay, QPOC (queer People of Color) advocate and co-host of The Consciousness Salon Podcast, to share fresh baguettes that a restaurant had just given her. Roshay enthusiastically accepted the offer, not expecting the reaction her body would have to the gift. "I brought it home, cut it up, toasted it, ate it, and I was so congested," says Roshay. "It was pretty instant. It was within 10, 15 minutes, and I went out to go for a walk. And I thought, 'Why do I feel awful?'" Then she woke up the next day with "full-blown symptoms." Roshay had stopped keeping bread in the house around 2018, after moving in with her partner at the time, and just wasn't eating much of it. "So here I am with all this bread, and it messed me up," says Roshay. "When I met with a doctor, we talked about it, and she said, 'Look, you can try having a piece [of bread], but if your body reacts that way, you kno...

Immunoglobulin Light Chain (AL) Amyloidosis Preceding Marginal Zone Lymphoma: A Case Report - Cureus

Image
Immunoglobulin light chain (AL) amyloidosis is a systemic disease in which different systems such as kidneys, heart, and lungs are affected by the deposition of amyloid, a form of fibrillary protein. Usually, it occurs in patients with pre-existing diagnoses of plasma cell dyscrasias and is rarely seen in the concurrence of marginal zone lymphoma (MZL). Earlier interventions with cyclophosphamide and dexamethasone in conjunction with newer therapies such as bortezomib, carfilzomib or lenalidomide, and pomalidomide are being used to treat patients with AL amyloidosis. In this report, we are presenting a unique case of a patient who was diagnosed with AL amyloidosis several years prior to presenting with a soft tissue mass, which was subsequently noted to be an amyloid mass within an MZL. Overall, the occurrence of AL amyloidosis and MZL is rare with less than 20 patients reported. The MZL developed prior to or simultaneously with AL amyloidosis in the reported cases. Therefore, to our...

Zyrtec-D (Cetirizine and Pseudoephedrine) - Oral - Verywell Health

Image
What Is Zyrtec-D? Zyrtec -D ( cetirizine and pseudoephedrine ) is a combination medication used to temporarily relieve symptoms from hay fever, or allergies (e.g., sneezing; itchy nose, throat, and eyes; watery eyes; and a runny or stuffy nose). Zyrtec-D blocks the effects of histamine (a substance produced in the body in response to allergens) and reduces swelling in the nasal passages to relieve sinus congestion and pressure, making it easier to breathe through the nose. Note that Zyrtec-D is not the same as Zyrtec. Zyrtec is an over-the-counter (OTC) medication that only contains cetirizine (antihistamine). The D in Zyrtec-D stands for decongestant because it also includes the decongestant pseudoephedrine. This article will focus on Zyrtec-D. Zyrtec-D is available as an extended-release tablet that is taken by mouth. Cetirizine Cetirizine is a second-generation antihistamine. Second-generation antihistamines cause less sedation (drowsiness) than ...
